The
Breton Flag "Gwenn
ha Du" (meaning White and Black) was created in 1925. It consists of 9
stripes: 5 black ones (representing the 5 ancient counties or bishoprics of
Haute-Bretagne: Dol, Nantes, Rennes, St-Brieuc |
| and
St-Malo) and the 4 white (representing those of Basse-Bretagne: Cornouaille,
Léon, Trégor and Vannetais) plus 11 ermines in the top left
corner (the ermine being considered almost everywhere as the symbol of
Brittany). |
